JENNIE JANE JONES: Memories of Jack Binkerd

Jennie Binkerd knew the Book of Mormon from cover to cover and could really quote scripture. Jack Binkerd (nephew) kept telling her that she should be baptized. At the age of 81, it took two priesthood holders to baptize her because she was a big woman.  She weighed 255 pounds at one time while living with Bert and Nedra.

The marriage of Charles William and Jennie wasn't unhappy even though she was always gone.  She worked quite a bit in the pharmacy.  Jennie didn't want them to think of the family when other needs were involved.  Bert helped financially by giving money to his mother.

Jennie had black hair with blue eyes. This is traditional with the Welch. Jones is a Welch name.

Jack Binkerd remembers John William and Jennie Jones taking he and his siblings into their home when they needed a home. For some reason, Jack’s father wasn't around. They lived in a small community called Lake Breeze. This small community was at the end of the street car line on Second South.

The family had a large frame house, a barn, a large chicken coop and an outside cellar. There was a large strawberry patch and quite a few fruit trees. Jennie did most of the farm work. Bert would help her when he wasn't working at the smelter. Bert also built and installed a cess pool. Later on, he built a garage.
